Kenneth J. Cobbe, age 86 of Swift Current passed away July 17, 2010 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. A graveside service was held Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 12:30 PM at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Pastor Kristin Soveran officiating. The urn bearers were Stan Day and Barry Quam. The honorary pallbearers are all who knew him. A celebration of Ken's life was held at the Eagles Hall following the graveside service at 1:30 PM. Ken is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marg Cobbe; one sister, Hazel Ruzicka; sister-in-laws Aleatha and Dean Cobbe and Grace Kane; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Ken is predeceased by his parents and parents-in-law and brothers George and Ray Cobbe. Ken was born in Limerick, SK on February 2, 1924. He attended school in Limerick. Ken married Marg Millar on July 8, 1957. Ken started at the PFRA pasture at Milestone then moved to Swift Current/Webb pasture as a manager where he remained until his retirement in 1990 with 36 years of service. Ken's skill as a horseman and cattleman earned the respect of his employees and colleagues and many remained good friends throughout his life. He was a member of the Limerick Oddfellows Lodge #145, a founding member of the Saskatchewan Quarter Horse Association, a member of the Bronco Hockey Hounds and a Gold Card Member of the Canadian Cowboys Association. Ken received The 2007 Working Cowboy of The Year award from Canadian Western Agribtion. Ken loved his work with horses and cattle and continued to move and check cattle and travel to many brandings after he retired. As a young man he broke a number of teams to drive and continued to train and use teams to feed the PFRA bulls in the winter. Ken also worked as a pickup man at professional and CCA rodeos for 10 years. He also enjoyed his cattle and hunting dogs. He had a keen sense of humor and loved to tell stories of his adventures. Ken liked music. Marg and Ken would spend evenings playing the organ and accordion for their own entertainment. Ken was an active supporter of the Swift Current Broncos where he stuffed and sold programs for the games and assisted in many fund raising activities for the club. He could brighten a day with a wink and a smile. He was always willing to lend a hand to family and friends.
