It is with great sadness that the family of Margaret Jean Elizabeth Whalen, 89, of Moncton, announces her passing after a sudden illness on Sunday, July 25, 2010 at The Moncton Hospital. She was the eldest daughter of the late Wylie and Sadie (Thompson) Coates. Margaret graduated in 1940 from nursing at the Halifax Childrens Hospital in Nova Scotia. Upon graduating, she did private duty nursing until she joined the staff at the Moncton Hospital in 1961 and worked there until her retirement. Margaret will be sadly missed by her children, James (Laura), Daniel (Margaret Ann), and Mary Catherine (Gilles); grandchildren, Paul, Michael, Shane, Nicholas, Lindsay and by three sisters, Mary Fagan, Toronto, Dorothy Henneberg, Boston and Jackie Myles, Yarmouth. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Paul Whalen; son, Richard and brother, Toller. A special thanks to the doctors and staff of the 4th floor at The Moncton Hospital for their compassion and care.
