It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of Roy MacDonald of Sydney Road, Reserve Mines, Sunday, July 25, 2010, at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Reserve Mines, Nov. 8, 1919, Roy was the son of the late of the late Catherine Martin.
He was a member of Gordon United Church, Reserve Mines.
Roy was a veteran of the Second World War and a life time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 2, Reserve Mines. Roy worked in the coal mines retiring from No. 26 Colliery. He loved life and recently could be seen out driving his ATV or boating down the Mira in his boat, the 'Sangaree Mist.'
Roy will be sadly missed by his sons, Paul 'Brother' (Leona), Sudbury, Ont., Billie 'Soot' (Natalie), Reserve Mines, Reggie, Ottawa; and his two daughters, Mary (Ted), Halifax, Judy (Bill), Reserve Mines. Roy is survived by one sister, Audrey McAndrew; brother, Carl Martin (Elaine); sister-in-law, Mary Donavan, Glace Bay.
Roy was a special Papa and will be fondly remembered by his 13 grandchildren,19 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Roy was predeceased by his wife, Marie Antoinette (Gouthro) MacDonald, brothers, Hollis Routledge (Freda), Elmer Martin, brother-in-law, Cyril A. McAndrew and a loving son-in-law, Shelly Stubbard.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 29, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service officiated by Martha MacDonald is Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Gordon United Church, Reserve Mines. Roy will be taken to the church at noontime Friday. Interment at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens followed by a reception at Gordon United Church Hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gordon United Church or a charity of one's choice.
