It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the passing of Gladys Lotherington at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Monday, July 26, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Salmon River, N.S., Gladys was the daughter of the late Caleb and Flora (MacKinnon) Huntington.
Gladys was a member of St. Andrew's United Church, Sydney and was a longtime resident of Cabot Street, the last 10 months she was residing at Celtic Court, Sydney.
Her greatest joy was cooking for and spending time with her family and friends, her house was always open to everyone to come for a meal. Mom will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her children, Thelma MacLean, Sydney, Edward, Sydney, Sidney (Nancy), Westmount, Charles (Susan), Whitby, Ont., Kenny (Wanda), East Bay, Sheila Pottie, Sydney, Gordie (Jodi), Georgia/Marion Bridge, Valerie, Sydney. She is also survived by her brother, Charlie (Velma) Huntington, Ontario, 11 grandchildren, Cathy, Danny, Stephen, Helena, Kari, Michael, Jennie, Ken, Jamie, Andrea and Bradley; nine great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Gladys was predeceased by her husband, Sidney, daughter, Gladys Mae, grandson, Robbie, twin sister, Annie, brother, John, and son-in-law, Amedie Pottie.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held today (Wednesday), July 28 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 6-9 p.m. Memorial service will take place 3 p.m., Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating. Reception to follow. Interment to take place at a later date in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation or St. Andrew's United Church, Sydney.
