CORBIN - Stanley, beloved husband of Margaret (nee Smithburg), passed away on May 9, 2009, in the presence of his loving family, at the Assiniboia Union Hospital, Assiniboia, SK, at the age of 91 years. Stan was born in England on August 8, 1917. He was the eldest child of Ernest and Laura (nee Brown) Corbin. At the age of eight, with his parents, he moved to Saskatchewan, settling in the Aneroid District. Stan married Margaret on May 11, 1940, at Aneroid, SK. They were blessed with six children: Darlene, Doreen, Carol, Bev, Sharon and Dennis. Stan joined the Armed Forces and served his country from 1943 to 1945. For many years he was an elevator agent for Paterson. He helped out various farmers in the area, operated the road grader for the R.M., and drove the mail truck from Aneroid to Vanguard. Stan loved visiting with people, attending dances, playing and watching hockey, entertaining at home and lending a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Aneroid Branch # 85, and especially enjoyed attending Legion reunions. Stan was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Laura Corbin; sons-in-law, Bob Bachman, Calvin Ulm, Wilf Reisdorf; and brother-in-law Ron Smith. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Margaret of 68 years; daughters, Darlene Bachman, Doreen (Jack) Rainey, Carol Ulm, Bev Reisdorf, Sharon (Frank) Phillips and son, Dennis (Diane) Corbin; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; sister, Dorothy Smith and brother, Jack (Ruth) Corbin. A celebration of life was held on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the Aneroid Centennial Hall with Laura Balas officiating. Urn bearer was Dennis Corbin. Eulogist was Gerald Ruehs. The Bachman family shared music. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 85 formed the honor guard and conducted the graveside rites. Interment was held at Aneroid Cemetery, Aneroid, SK. Tributes in Stanley’s memory may be given to Royal Canadian Legion Branch #85 Aneroid, SK, S0N 0C0. Arrangements were entrusted to Piché-Hawkins-Grondin Funeral Chapels, Gravelbourg and Assiniboia.
