Annie Catherine MacKenzie, 97, of Middle River, Victoria County, passed away July 28, 2010, in Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck, after a brief illness.
Annie was born in Upper Middle River, Feb. 17, 1913, to John and Dolena (MacKenzie) MacRae.
She was a member of Farquharson Memorial Presbyterian Church and the AMS Society.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Annie is survived by her son, Allister and daughter-in-law, Joan, with whom she resided, and her daughters, Joan, New York, and Jessie, Vancouver Island.
Annie was also survived by her granddaughter, Jean (Donnie) and grandsons, David (Annette) Sandy (Kerrie), Carl (Julia) MacKenzie, Glen (Kelly) Dowden, Paul and Mark Brillantes and great-grandchildren, David Alexander, Ryan, Emma, Carter, Kailyn, Miguel, Jenna MacKenzie, Maxwell and Ainsley Dowden, all of whom she cherished and adored.
She was predeceased by her husband, Norman, daughter, Margaret, son-in-law, Leslie and grandson, Robert Dowden. She was also predeceased by one brother, Murray and one sister, Alexandria in infancy, sister, Maggie Mae and brothers, Roderick, George and Daniel MacRae.
Annie enjoyed knitting, doing her daily crossword puzzles and card games with family and friends. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 30, 2010, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at MacAskill's Funeral Home, Baddeck. Funeral will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 2 p.m. in Farquharson Memorial Presbyterian Church, Middle River. Burial to follow in Middle River Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria County Memorial Hospital Foundation.
