Date de décès : 29 juillet 2010
Husband, father and grandfather, Archibald Anthony (Archie) MacLean, 90 years, of Washabuck, Cape Breton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family early on July 29, 2010, after a brief encounter with cancer.
He was the remaining member of the late Malcolm B. and Mary Jane MacLean family.
He was predeceased by both parents and siblings, Mary Margaret (Peggy), Eulalia and Stephen Sylvester.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Ann (Marie); his children, Darlene and her husband Gerard; Beverly and her husband Rick; Karen; Daniel and his wife Frances; Jeanette and her husband Paul.
Archie is also survived by grandchildren, Malcolm, Lyndsay, Jenny, Joshua, Brianna, Nathan and Ben.
A quiet, kind and good man with dry sense of humour and quick wit, Archie lived a simple but complete life. He cherished his culture, family, parish and friends. He was his family's biggest fan and this was evidenced by his trips out west and to Halifax to be with them. He celebrated their successes and tempered their stumbles with kind words.
He was honoured to be invited to attend the papal mass in Halifax and was selected by his peers as volunteer of the year in Victoria County.
He enjoyed playing cards and was particularly astute at cribbage, recording two 29 hands in his lifetime. He had a sharp eye and steady hand which struck fear into opposing teams when facing his skill in a dart tournament. He also enjoyed reading, watching the Blue Jays and Jeopardy.
Archie worked for 30 years for Little Narrows Gypsum Co., Little Narrows, Cape Breton.
During his years in Washabuck, Archie volunteered tirelessly with the church, local community centre and the St. Columba Credit Union.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, at the Iona parish hall from 6-8 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at St. Columba Church, Iona. Archie's family will receive friends at a luncheon to be held at the Washabuck Community Centre after the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Archie's memory to the Holy Rosary Cemetery Fund in Washabuck.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck.
