Hansen, Edward Joseph (Joe) - born October 13, 1927 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2010 in Sarasota, Florida. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Ardythe P. (Ells) Hansen, Sarasota, formerly of Habitant, Nova Scotia, his son, Gregory Hansen, Atlanta, Georgia, and his daughter, Dr. Denise (Hansen) Tarasuk and son-in-law, Matthew Tarasuk, Campbell, California. Mr. Hansen also leaves behind four grandchildren, Kelly (Hansen) Casamassima, Kyle Hansen, Dane Tarasuk, and Gregory Hansen, Jr. and one great-grandchild, Brianna Ricardo, nephews Peter and Paul Hansen, and niece, Karen Hansen. He was predeceased by his parents, Hans and Gertrude Hansen, and his brother, George Hansen. Mr. Hansen graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1950. He was a lifelong certified Professional Engineer and dedicated business professional. His last position was as Vice President of Engineering at Gibbs and Hill in New York. Prior to joining Gibbs and Hill, he had worked in various engineering roles at Bailey Meter Co. in Toronto, Ontario and Neil and Gunter in Fredericton, New Brunswick. He spent five years on an expatriate assignment in Taipei, Taiwan with Gibbs and Hills? subsidiary Gibsin Engineering. Mr. Hansen served in the Royal Canadian Army Reserves in the Black Watch regiment and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1966. He was an active curler in both Canada and the U.S., winning regional and USA Men's National awards. After retirement, he was very active in golfing, and served on the Greens Committee at the Meadows Country Club in Sarasota. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at the Hensley Memorial Chapel at Kings-Edgehill School in Windsor, Nova Scotia on August 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Rev. David Curry officiating. A graveside Committal Service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Habitant Cemetery, which is located near Canning, Nova Scotia. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Kings Edgehill Schools Annual Giving Fund, Cadet or Athletic Programs.
