It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Gordon Newton. Gordie died at home on Aug. 3, 2010.
Born in Bras d'Or on Nov. 25, 1950, he was the son of Conrad and Una (MacLellan) Newton.
He was employed with the Canadian Armed Forces for 25 years and later employed as commissionaire at the Alexander Graham Bell Museum.
In his younger years, Gordie was an avid boxer and was very proud of his accomplishments. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his dad or his sons-in-law.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Linda (Young) Newton. He will be sadly missed by his parents, Conrad and Una; his brother, Glen (Francene); his daughters, Terri (Chris) Charlong, Halifax, Tania (Troy) Janega, Sydney, and Tina, Sydney; his six grandchildren, Ryan and Kaylee Charlong, Troy and Jacob Janega and Aurora and Dustin Newton; his niece and nephew, Lindsay and Glen Newton; and his very good friends, Art, Mary Jane and Stewie McNeil.
There will be no visitation or service. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Bras d'Or. Arrangements are under the direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
