It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Blain Gregory Gouthro, 40, on Sunday, May 24, 2009, at home.
Born in Toronto, Ont., Jan. 7, 1969, he was the son of Diane (Hanrahan) Romard and the late Michael Gregory Gouthro.
Blain graduated from Reserve Mines District High School. He was employed by Securitas Canada Ltd. at EDS in Sydney.
In his earlier years, he played baseball and hockey and enjoyed his dart games on Thursday nights. Blain coached the boy’s basketball team at Tompkins School, Reserve Mines for three years. He was a die hard New York Islanders fan. His love of sports was passed on to his son and best buddy, Aaron. His spare time was spent at ball fields, hockey rinks and ring side cheering Aaron on. Fond memories and friendships were made on their many road trips to sporting events. Blain was also very proud of his daughter, Samantha, whom he adored. She was his ‘momantha’. Blain was looking forward to her graduation in June and dancing with his princess. He enjoyed weekends and holidays with family and friends playing his favourite music, spirits and a few laughs. He will be sadly missed by his best friend, Robert Kennedy who enjoyed their fishing trips to Lake Uist.
Blain is survived by his wife of 18 years, Pauline (Mackie) whom he loved dearly; children, Samantha and Aaron, at home; brothers, Derek (Lana) Gouthro, Gardiner Mines, Kenneth (Vicki) Romard, MacKay’s Corner; sister, Jennifer Romard (Jonathan), at home; father and mother-in-law, Harvey and Marilyn Mackie, Gardiner Road. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, a nephew, extended families and his many friends.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Joseph Romard, maternal grandparents, Alonzo and Veronica (Aucoin) Hanrahan, paternal grandparents, Daniel and Mary Ann (Currie) Gouthro.
Visitation for Blain Gouthro will be held Wednesday, May 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, May 28 at Holy Family Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Gerald Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
