Shirley Knee
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Shirley Knee on August 5, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Jim; her sister, Eva; daughter, Claudia Friesen (Jim) of Parksville, BC; granddaughter, Melanie, of Victoria, BC and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition, she is survived by her husband's family, Judy Coates (Harry) of Codroy Valley, NL, Jim Knee (Molly) of Conception Bay South, NL, Carol Blacklock (Dave) of New Maryland, NB; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Florence and Albert Hossack; her first husband, Claude Fowlow and her sister, Ann. Shirley was born in the afternoon of December 23, 1931 in Cross Creek, NB after the doctor arrived by horse and buggy. As a teenager, she was an avid tennis player who participated in tournaments in the Fredericton area, culminating in a doubles championship in 1947. Prior to moving to Port aux Basques, NL, Shirley worked for the provincial Department of Health. In Newfoundland, she worked in the office of Diamond Construction and Robert Pike Ltd. With her husband and father-in-law, Fowlow's Wholesale was developed. At her husband's death she assumed the leadership of the firm until it was sold in 1980. Shirley and Jim were married in 1981 and moved to Fredericton in 1986. We celebrate Shirley's extended life in which she had deep roots in her Christian faith and enjoyed a life full of family, golf, bowling and the many friends who encircled her and Jim.
