It is with great sadness that we announce our mother, Hulda Blackie, ended her earthly journey and passed quietly into eternal life on Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at Miners Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines, where she resided for the past eight years.
Born in Sydney Mines, Jan. 2, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Margaret (Boyd) Bennett. Hulda was a member of St. Pius X parish.
She is survived by her sons, Raymond (Alice) and Henry (Bronwin); her daughters, Shirley (Joe) Campbell, Bev (Alex) LeBlanc and Marlene Deal. Also surviving are her brothers, Russell (Helen) and Alex (Mabel); her sisters, Joan (Leonard Guy) and Phyllis MacMullin; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henry, her grandson, Michael, her brothers, Arthur Jr., Roddie, Edgar, Floyd and Wilfred, her sister, Sadie Gillies, and son-in-law, Allan Deal.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church with Fr. Ajit Kerketta officiating. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
The family would like to thank everyone who walked with Hulda on journey with Alzheimers. You are blessed with many beautiful memories because of her sense of humour and love of music.
