It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Calder Munroe of Glace Bay. Calder passed away after a year long battle with cancer on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, at the Glace Bay Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John and Remigius (McNeil) Munroe, and was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Reserve Mines.
Calder worked several years at Festoso Auto Body in Stratford, Ont., returning to Cape Breton in 2004 and began his employment with Stream. Calder enjoyed his time with family and friends at their spot on the Bras d'Or Lakes. He was a true outdoorsman, with numerous hunting and fishing spots in the Gabarus Lake area. Calder was also an avid carpenter, helping family and friends with their indoor and outdoor projects. He will mainly be remembered as a family man, being a wonderful husband, a loving and caring father and a proud grandfather.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 21 years, Patricia (Hiscock) Munroe; daughters, Tanya (Tom) Bolton, Stratford, Ont., Sherry Lambert, Glace Bay; sons, Calder Jr., John Lambert, both of Glace Bay; brother, Wayne (Carol) Munroe, Porters Lake; sisters, Helen (Blair) Tatlock, New Waterford, Nadine (Dwight) Oliver, Reserve Mines; six grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Calder was predeceased by a brother, Blair and sister, Marilyn.
In honoring Calder's wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Aug. 10 from 2-4 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. All are invited to stay and join the family at a luncheon following the service.
