Charles Howard "Junior" Burke, age 82, of Poplar Grove, Hants County, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2010. Born on July 30, 1927, in Poplar Grove, Hants County, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Charles and Eula (Marsters) Burke. Junior worked for the Nova Scotia Department of Highways until he retired. He had formerly worked with the Dominion Atlantic Railway. Junior enjoyed playing a game of rummy, reminiscing with old Department of Highway and Railroad buddies. He loved to putter around fixing things, riding his John Deere lawn tractor and watching the Blue Jays play baseball until they got behind in the score. Junior is survived by his wife of 62 years, the former, Elinor Joyce Wilcox; his children, Wayne Burke, Windsor; Brenda (Nathaniel) Spence, Ellershouse; Howard Burke, Martock; Charlene (George) Armstrong, Three Mile Plains; Carolyn Burke, Oromocto, New Brunswick; Kathy (Paul) Sanford, Windsor; Lois (Jeff) Kidd, Sweets Corner; 16 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Marie Anthony, Bridgewater; Betty (Basil) McAllister, Oromocto, New Brunswick; brother, Gary (Caroline) Burke, in Ontario. Besides his parents, Charles and Eula (Marsters) Burke; he was predeceased by a son, Charles Dana Burke; his brother, Fred Burke. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, August 3, 2010, in Lindsay's Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. A graveside committal service was 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at the Newport Landing Cemetery, Avondale, Hants County, followed by a reception at the home of his son, Wayne Burke, 663 Wiley Avenue, Windsor. A special "Thanks" to Dr. Mark Kazimirski for all of his help. Donations in memory of Junior, were requested to be made to a charity of one's choice.
