Sr. Colleen Ann Mahoney, SSA (Sr. Mary Colleen Ann), born November 26, 1938 in Sacred Heart Hospital, Spokane, Washington, eldest of four children born to Thomas Joseph Mahoney and Eileen Cecilia (Glass) Mahoney, died August 11, 2010 at St. Ann's Residence in Victoria, B.C.

She entered the Sisters of St. Ann in August 1956 and pronounced her vows on August 6, 1958. Always a creative educator, Colleen taught at St. Augustine's and Immaculate Conception schools in Vancouver, B.C. Fulfilling a dream to serve as a missionary she taught in Nulato and Juneau, Alaska. In Kamloops, B.C., Colleen was principal at St. Ann's Academy. She then began her long career in Religious Education as Diocesan Director. From 1975 to 1982 Colleen served the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops for the National Office of Religious Education as team member and then as National Director. At Queenswood Centre in Victoria from 1982-92 Colleen offered spirituality programs for women and served as a member of the Diocesan Religious Education Team and for five years, coordinated the Victoria Diocesan Synod. In 1993 Colleen returned to Ottawa to teach at St. Paul's University and St. Paul's Seminary and served on the team launching the Lay Ministry Formation Program until 2006. Retiring to Victoria, Colleen continued to gather groups of Associates and friends to share wisdom.

Predeceased by her parents, she is survived by her brother Michael (Cheryl) Mahoney of Boise, Idaho, sisters Danette (Steve) Poffenroth of Colbert, Washington, and Mary (Patrick) McCarthy of Mead, Washington, as well as many nieces, nephews, associates, friends and her own community of Sisters of St. Ann.

Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on August 12, 2010 at St. Ann's Residence, 2474 Arbutus Road, Victoria, B.C.

The Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. on August 13, 2010, also at St. Ann's Residence followed by Interment at Hatley Memorial Gardens.
