James Tompkins McNeil, 57, of Blackett Street, Glace Bay, passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010.
Born in Reserve Mines, he was a proud member of the Woodpecker McNeil's, and was known for his ability to fix just about anything from cars to computers. He always put his family first, believed in hard work and honesty, and was always the first to lend a helping hand.
Jim worked for many years as a maintenance supervisor for the Seton Foundation and was well loved by the many tenants he met and helped over the years. He had a spot in his heart for those in need, and he quite literally helped put a roof over the heads of many families in the community.
He is sadly missed by his loving wife of 34 years, Mary (MacNeil) McNeil; sons, John (Danielle Phillips), Fredericton and Jay, Sydney; brothers, John (Colleen), Mickey (Diane), Francie (Joan), Tommy (Mary), Billy (Brenda), Coody (Diane), Darrell (Colleen) and Donnie (Jackie) and sisters, Tina (Don) MacLean, Donna (Sonny) MacDonald, Mary Ruth (Danny) Campbell, Toni (Dave) MacLean; brothers-in-law, Harry Bert, Joe MacDonald and Dave Bishop; sisters-in-law, Minie, Peggy and Theresa McNeil.
He was predeceased by his parents, Danny and Maggie (McWhriter) McNeil; brothers, George, Duck and Robert and sisters, Mazie Bert, Peggy MacDonald, Eva Bishop, Debbie and brother-in-law, John Boutilier.
Jim also leaves behind a loving family of in-laws: brother-in-law, Neil MacNeil; sisters-in-law, Sadie MacNeil (Carol), Joanne MacNeil (George), Kathleen MacLean (Dougie), Theresa MacNeil (Kenny) and Franklyn Wadden (Glenn).
Visitation for James will be held Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated, 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Holy Cross Church, Glace Bay with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating. Cremation will follow.
