Velma Smyth, 82, passed away on Saturday, August 14th, 2010 at the Moncton Hospital. She had resided for the past six years at McNair Manor, Riverview and formerly of Cumberland Bay, NB. Born in Coal Creek, NB on May 2, 1928, she was the youngest child of the late Percy and Violet (Nightingale) Leckey. She was a homemaker and loved spending time with her grandchildren and visiting her brothers. She was a life member of the Cumberland Bay Women's Institute, the Women's Missionary Society and the Cumberland Bay United Baptist Church. Velma had a love of the outdoors and enjoyed traveling and hunting. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Karen Boileau and her husband Allan of Riverview; brother Glendon Leckey, grandchildren Beth Hunter of Fredericton; Sean Boileau of Nishinomya, Japan; Aron Boileau of Riverview; and Meaghan MacKay of Kitchener, Ontario; and one great granddaughter Marley Hunter. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Bruce, daughter Catherine Smyth MacKay and two brothers Earle and Kenneth.
Resting at the Chipman Funeral Home until Tuesday, August 17th, 2010 when funeral services will be held from the Cumberland Bay Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David Egers officiating. Interment will be in the Cumberland Bay United Cemetery following the service. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday, August 16th, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Cumberland Bay Baptist Church or the Moncton Hospital Palliative Care Unit would be appreciated by the family.
