It is with profound sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our most beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Aug. 13, 2010.
Born and raised in McKays Corner, Georgie was the daughter of the late Freddie and M.C. MacSween.
In her early years she was employed with the Telephone Office and St. Joseph's Hospital. Her greatest accomplishments were enjoyed in her role as wife, mother and friend to many. Georgie's zest for life and care for others impacted everything she did and all she touched. She treated each person equally and never judged. Georgie is always described by those who knew her as a person who "never had a bad word to say about anyone." She was an active member of St. Eugene's parish, Dominion, and was involved in all aspects of parish life, especially St. Vincent de Paul, choir and CWL.
Georgie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Art; and her children, Paula (Al), Fred (Joanne), Carol (Darren), Arthur (Rosemary), Terry (Donna) and Bernie (Cathy). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Gillies, Nicole, Liam, Anna, Morgan, Connor, Georgia, Brett, Kailin, Rebecca and Cassie; her great-granddaughter, Alexandria; sister, Alma; and special niece, Lonnie.
She was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Marie, Allena, Vina, Leona and Alonzo.
Visitation for the late Georgie Gillis will take place Tuesday, Aug. 17 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Curry's Funeral Home, Glace Bay. A funeral will be celebrated at St. Eugene's Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Alzheimers Society.
