It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Edith May Clarke, age 89, former resident of Cleary Avenue, North Sydney, on Thursday May 28, 2009 at the Alderwood Guest Home in Baddeck.
Born in Grand Bank, Nfld., she was a daughter of the late Morgan and Bessie (Parsons) Trimm.
Edie lived a long and full life. She traveled with family and friends and was a member of many clubs and organizations. She will be best remembered for meeting many people in North Sydney on her daily walks, her love of bingo and her passion for blueberry picking. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Edie is survived by her children, Stan (Lynn) Clarke, Hamilton, Ruth Gardiner, Sydney Mines, Patrice Gillis (Claddie), Sydney Mines, Larry (Sandra) Clarke, Michael Clarke, both of North Sydney; her step-daughter Marion Poullen, Neil’s Harbour, and her step-son Artie Clarke, North Bay; her eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Nelson, her son Nelson and sons-in-law Bucky Gardiner and John Gillis.
Edie truly enjoyed and was very comfortable in her home at Alderwood, and the family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff for being her extended family and the excellent care shown to her during her time there.
There will be no visitation by request. A private family burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Memorial donations in Edie’s memory can be made to the Alderwood Recreation Fund, Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice.
