It is with great sadness that we the family of Raymond Willis Hedd, 87, of 24 Wilson's Rd., Reserve Mines, announce his sudden passing on Aug. 16, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
He was a member of St. Joseph's parish, Reserve Mines. Along with being a past president of the parish council, he was also involved with the St. Joseph's Men's Club, Reserve Mines Sea Cadets and Little League and Sydney Mines Boy Scouts.
Raymond was a dedicated employee at the Sydney Steel Corporation for 44 years before his retirement.
Raymond's greatest joy came from his family. He was a loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and loved by many.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late George and Maggie Hedd. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Anne, brothers, Benjamin and Owen 'Skinny' and sister, Mazie.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Cecilia (Aucoin) Hedd, Reserve Mines; sons, Owen, Reserve Mines, Bill (Shirley), New Glasgow, Russell, Glace Bay; daughters, Elaine (Ben) Haighway, Reserve Mines, Donna Cann, Glace Bay; grandchildren, Belinda (Stuart), Brian (Carrie), Raymond (Jennifer), Leah (Kyle), Amber, Meaghan and Devon; great-granddaughters, Paige, Marissa, Marley, Breagh and Kyleigh. Raymond will also be missed by Norma Aucoin, Sydney and Todd Cann, Glace Bay.
Visitation will take place at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, Tuesday, 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will take place at St. Joseph's Church, Reserve Mines at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, with Rev. Daniel Boudreau presiding. Committal to take place at St. Joseph - Holy Family Cemetery, MacLeod Road.
