ROACH, Winnifred Mary “Winnie†– 87, Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou, passed away peacefully, Friday May 29, 2009 in the home. Born June 12, 1921, in Pictou, she was the daughter of the late William and Matilda (MacEwan) Conrad. Winnie’s infectious personality and quick wit made her a pleasure to know. Her love, strong faith and determination brought her through a life that was not always easy. She provided for and cared for her family and always made sure they never went without. She was a member of Pictou United Church and although unable to attend, she enjoyed worshipping and singing at the nursing home church services. In earlier years, she enjoyed playing cards, taking photos, shopping around Pictou and visiting with family and friends. She will be dearly missed. Winnie is survived by her children, Jerry (Val), Pictou; Sheila (Ed) Varner, Truro; Donnie, Central West River/Pictou; Jane Delaney, Lyons Brook; grandchildren, Troy, Shelley, Chad, Shaun, Bobby, Brenda, Bruce and Brooke; great grandchildren, Brianna, Ryan, Noa and Jacob; brothers, Gerald Conrad, Lyons Brook; Arthur Conrad, Amherst; several nieces, nephews and dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Patrick Roach; brother, Ernest Conrad; son-in-law, Doug Delaney. Winnie’s family would like to thank Reverend Mary-Beth Moriarity and the Pastoral Care Team of Pictou United Church for their visits; Dr. Randy Burrill and the staff at Maritime Oddfellows Home for their care, staff of Sharon’s Place for always taking the time to chat and to all who continued to visit and keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Winnie’s family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9pm Sunday, May 31, in McLaren Funeral Home, 246 Faulkland Street, Pictou. Funeral service will be held 2pm Monday, June 1, in Pictou United Church, Reverend Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Reception will follow in the church hall. Interment in Seaview Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Winnie’s memory to Pictou United Church (Pastoral Care Team) or B.R.A.I.N. Child, c/o IWK are welcomed.
