It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Anthony ‘Skinny’ Cashin, 79, of Bras d’Or, on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at home.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late James and Rose (Healey) Cashin. Richard was a member of St. Joseph parish, Bras d’Or. He worked in Florence Colliery #3 and retired from Marine Atlantic in May 1988.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandpa, and great-poppy who enjoyed Sunday dinners and family get-togethers.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary (Baxter) Cashin; two daughters, Linda (Wayne) Rendell, Bras d’Or and Ruth Ann (Neil) MacDonald, Sydney Mines; two sons, Paul (Laura), New Jersey, USA and Frank (Judy), Mississauga, Ont. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who were his pride and joy; numerous nieces and nephews and a special nephew, Greg Jobes and his wife Judy.
Besides his parents, Richard was predeceased by his brothers, Martin, Jerome, Art, Lloyd, Frank, Herman and Jim.
Visitation for Richard Cashin will be held in the J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Monday, June 1, 2009, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass celebrating his life will take place on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Peter MacLeod officiating. The burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Richard’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
