New Glasgow - Douglas James "Snake" Hoare, 76, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital surrounded by his family. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of the late William and Mabel (Fogarty) Hoare. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton. Doug was employed with J. Fisher Grant, Bens Bread, Heather Lanes Bowling Alley, Michelin and Hawker Siddeley up to his retirement. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Bombers Club and Royal Canadian Legion Br. 34 New Glasgow. Surviving are his children: Jennifer (Robert) Murray, New Glasgow; Jamie (Lynn) Hoare, North Sydney; their mother Faye Hoare, New Glasgow; grandchildren: Craig and Matthew Murray, Catherine and Claire Hoare; sisters: Joyce Campbell; Marie Sibidle; brothers: Bernie (Sis); Donnie (Kay); David (Sharon); sister-in-law Mabel Hoare; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Bill "Bumper" and Bob, brother-in-law Gordon Campbell, sister-in-law Marion Hoare. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 pm Friday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home New Glasgow. Funeral mass 10 am Saturday in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Bill Rankin officiating and Father Gary MacPherson concelebrating. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the IWK or Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
