Group Captain Everett L. (“Shan”) Baudoux DSO, DFC, CD – passed away at his beloved home on Big Island May 27. Born in 1919 in Stellarton, Everett traveled the world, but always followed his heart home to Nova Scotia. The Pictou County aviator, outdoorsman, community advocate and writer lived a long and full life. Everett was Canada’s first graduate from the Royal Empire Test Pilot School; he flew the first jet in Canada in 1946. He retired as Commanding Officer from RCAF Station Greenwood. In his civilian life he was the Ex. Director of the NS Housing Commission, Director of the Pictou County Community Futures program, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the NS Division of the Commissionaires and served on various other boards and committees. He published his first book in his eighties.

He was predeceased by his parents Bertha and A.H. Baudoux, wife Daphne (Gilmour), daughter Patricia Docker and brother Royce. He will be missed by brother Sterling (Jean), son-in-law Raymond Docker (Corinne), daughter Jane MacKay (Lewis), son Michael Baudoux (Carol), grandchildren Thomas Bernard-Docker (Rolanda), Philip Docker (Sarah), Amy MacKay, Jeffrey MacKay and Kate Baudoux. He greatly enjoyed his great grandchildren Jacob, Seth, Island, Cohen and Eli. Special thanks to the VON nurses who supported Everett. We will celebrate Everett’s life on Sunday June 7th at the Museum of Industry in New Glasgow at 7:00 pm. No flowers by request. Donations may be made to the Lismore Community Centre, the Merigomish Volunteer Fire Department or a charity of your choice. Keep soaring, Shan.
