George William McGilvray Morris, loving companion of Charlene Amirault, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 23, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1938 in Timmons, ON, he was the son of the late Geoffrey and Jean (Cranston) Morris. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Faye Thompson. George had worked for Irving Pulp and Paper for many years. He had self-taught himself to play the guitar and was passionate about music, especially country music. George was a member of the Grand Bay Folk Group and the Long Reach Kitchen Party Crew. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 62 Clifton Royal and was a Charter Member of the Knights of Columbus Council #9176 St. Matthews for 25 years . He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his winters with Charlene in Florida. Besides his loving companion Charlene, he is survived by his children Geoffrey Morris (Karen) of Danville, CA, Jodie Bernard (Michael) of Orleans, ON, Tammy Lanigan of Grand Bay-Westfield and Darrah Sawyer (Tom) of Nerepis; Charlene's children Suzanne Johnstone (Jason) of Lincoln, ME and Linda Kirkpatrick (Ken) of Quispamsis; grandchildren Alexandra, Sarah, Greg, Darrah, Mitchell, Zachary, Shannon, Katie, Hannah, Geoffrey, Cameron and Spencer; brothers Geoffrey Morris (Helen) of Elliott Lake, ON and James Morris of Timmons, ON; several nieces and nephews.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitation on Thursday, August 26, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A tribute to a Veteran Service will be held at the funeral home Thursday evening at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Bridget's Catholic Church on Friday, August 27, 2010 at 11 a.m. A private family interment will take place in the church cemetery at a later date.
