Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family in the Angel Room at St. Luke’s Home on May 29th, 2009. Edward (Ted) Patrick Coleman, aged 86 years. Predeceased by his parents Ronald and Margaret Coleman; brothers: Philip, Jack and Jim; sister: Mary; sisters-in-law: Mary Loretta, Helen, Terry and Ange; brothers-in-law: William Beer and Walter Lynch. He is survived by his loving wife Mary (nee Cose) of 62 years; daughters: Colleen Poore (husband Nigel) and Maureen Major (husband Wade); grandchildren: Erin, Elaine, Stephanie, Edward and Samantha; brothers: Ronnie (Shirley), Pat (Joan), Tom (Eleanor) and Jerry (Dossie); sister: Rose as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Ed began his career as a shoemaker on Carter’s Hill and in his capacity as a shoemaker served four years at the Argentia Naval Base during the Second World War. Ed (Ted) started working at Baine Johnston and Company in 1955 and remained a loyal employee until his retirement in 1988. Ed was a devoted member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Terra Nova Council 1452 for 46 years. Ed had a passion for fishing and boating and spent many weekends in his camper exploring Newfoundland fishing spots and excursions to the Mainland. He particularly enjoyed his annual salmon fishing trips to B.C. His other passion was dancing and for many years Ed and Mary would gather with close friends on Saturday night for the weekly Bingo and dance at the K of C Hall on St. Clare Ave. Many thanks to the caring nurses and staff at St. Luke’s for making Ed’s last days comfortable. Resting at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 at 9:30 a.m. from the Basilica of St. John the Baptist. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers gratefully accepted or a donation may be made in his memory to the St. Luke’s Home, Angel Care Program.
