Kenneth Barton

1929 - 2010 - The family of Kenneth Leslie Barton wish to announce the passing of their father and husband, brother and friend which occurred on August 25, 2010. Ken was born October 5th, 1929 in Minto New Brunswick to Basil and Anne (Lamb) Barton. Ken grew up in the coal mining village of Minto amongst people hard working, honest and pragmatic. His admiration for these qualities carried him throughout his life and he was known by everyone as someone who could be depended on to get the job done. An avid naturalist, Ken spent many pleasurable hours fishing and hiking in the area. After his retirement from Revenue Canada, he became keenly interested in living off the land and decided to try his hand at the frontier life when he built his fishing camp on the Salmon River, outside Chipman. Ken was also an avid sportsman, playing hockey and ball with the pinnacle being inducted into the New Brunswick Softball Hall of Fame in 1999, and the Minto Wall of Fame in 2007 with the 1957-1960 Minto Miners Softball Team. Returning to Minto to live, Ken decided to invite a long time friend out for a cup of coffee and subsequently married Marg Glenn. They spent the next seven years enjoying their life together and Ken found great joy in the richness Marg brought to his life. Always reliable and hard working, his family and friends will miss his enthusiasm for life and the joy he took in his family. More importantly was known as our hero and we will miss him greatly. Predeceased by his parents and his brother Orlan. Ken is survived by his three children, Jill Barton-MacPhee (Richard MacPhee); Brad Barton (Sharon MacLean); and Todd Barton (Joley Adams), grandson Eric (Brad), granddaughter Becky (Brad), granddaughter MacKenzie (Jill), granddaughter Kennedy (Todd) and his wife Marguerite Glenn-Barton.
