It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Johanna Cecelia Murphy at King Garden in Mississauga, Ont., on Saturday, May 30, 2009.
Born in Canso, she was the daughter of the late Bessie (Ryan) and Walter Diggins.
She moved to Cape Breton as a young girl from New Glasgow, where she married Alex Murphy and resided until 2005, moving to Mississauga due to ill health. She worked at MacGillivary Guest Home for several years. Cecelia loved sewing, baking and being with her family especially her grandsons and granddaughter.
Cecelia is survived by her daughters, Betty (Jim) Morrison, Sydney, Anne (Cyril) Burchell, Sandra (Malcolm) Morrison, both of Mississauga; Colleen (Dave) McKee, Cambridge, Ont., Joanne (Martin) Elsaesser, Ottawa, Ont.; sisters, Rita and Lottie; eight grandsons, Kirk, Keith, Kevin, Connor, Travis, Kyle, Alan, Kenzie; one granddaughter, Hayley; four great-grandchildren, Carson, Kailyn, Brylinn, Colby and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alex in 1992; brothers, Pat, Bill, Jack and sisters, Gaye and Theresa.
There will be no visitation for Cecelia Murphy. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Church with Rev. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
