Date de décès : 27 août 2010
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Irene Gertrude Scribner, wife of the late Lew (Jack) Cedric Scribner.
Born 1919 in Saint John, NB, she was the eldest daughter of the late Daniel and Beatrice (Turner) Godwin. Irene was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch #20 and St. Mark's Anglican Church, Sussex Corner.
Irene graduated from Saint John High School in 1937 and was a Veteran of the Second World War, having served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1943-1946. She held positions with Irving Oil Ltd. as a bookkeeping machine operator, an accountant with the National Harbors Board, a stenographer with Cowan, Millman, Sarnia, ON, and as a secretary with Ontario Probation Services. This was a lady who constantly gave of herself be it with the Red Cross or wherever she could lend a helping hand.
Irene was a loving Aunt to her nieces, nephews and their children as well. She loved you unconditionally. She was an excellent cook and often prepared delicious meals for our family get-togethers. There was always a new recipe accompanying Aunt Irene at our family functions.
Irene loved working in her garden and had the most beautiful flowers. She and Jack also enjoyed their vegetable garden, while living on the Bellisle, preserving fruits and vegetables for the coming winter.
Irene & Jack traveled over the years with friends and family and loved camping at the many parks throughout Canada and the United States.
Irene is survived by one sister, Barbara (Graeme) Armstrong, of Sarnia, Ontario; and sister-in-law, Joan Godwin of Saint John. Brother, Harry Godwin and sister, Margaret Smith, predeceased Irene.
Mrs. Irene Gertrude Scribner passed away at the Ridgewood Veterans Wing, South Bay Saint John, on August 27th, 2010.
All will dearly miss her.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, (506-433-1176), where visitation will be held on Monday, 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch # 20 will hold a tribute Monday evening at 6:00 pm.
A Celebration of Irene's life will be held from Wallace Community Chapel on Tuesday, August 31st, 2010 at 11:00 am. The interment will take place at Fern Hill Cemetery.
