On September 1, 2010, surrounded by family, Margaret "Marg" Shannik passed away peacefully at Royal Inland Hospital.
Beloved Mother and Grandmother, her memory will be cherished by her daughter Barbara (Stan) Warsimage, sons Eric (Herta) Shannik, Brian (Barb) Shannik, all of Kamloops, Larry (Barb) Shannik of Burnaby, and Jim (Lynn) Shannik of Delta.
Her unwavering love will be missed by her grandchildren Brenda (Jayme) Chmiliar, Wendy (Paul) Gagnon, Denise Warsimage, Valerie and Ashley Shannik, Michelle (Peter) Braun, Lauren and Matthew Shannik, Taylor and Karley Shannik, as well as her great grandchildren Nicholas and Jackson Chmiliar, Hayleigh Braun, and Ethan Gagnon. "Grams" always made time to attend all the important events in their lives, to listen, and to provide support or advice when needed.
She was predeceased by her husband Carman Shannik, her brother Harry (Alice) Hallam and her sister Winnie (Grant) Palmer.
Marg, a long time resident of Kamloops, was a lifetime member of the Women of the Moose #915 and was the first member of the Chapter to obtain the highest Moose honour, the College of the Regents Degree. In earlier years, the family owned and operated both the Town & Country store in Brocklehurst and then the Whiteway Grocery in South Kamloops.
As an avid fastball pitcher in the Kamloops Women's League, Margaret excelled and played in multiple Provincial playoffs. Her abilities on the field were recognized with her induction into the Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame.
The family would like to thank Dr. J. Howie, as well as the staff on 6th floor RIH for their care and concern for Margaret after her recent surgery.
In Marg's memory, please make a donation to a charity of your choice or to Kamloops Hospice, in lieu of flowers.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 in the Kamloops Funeral Home Chapel with the Very Reverend Louise Peters officiating.
