Elizabeth (Betty) G. Mooney (nee Stacey)

Date de décès : 6 septembre 2010

of Kilbride- She has left us. It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce her passing after a short but courageous battle with cancer in the presence of her family at the Dr. L.A. Miller Center on September 6, 2010. 62 years ago, Elizabeth Genevieve Stacey was born in St. Lawrence on July 23, 1948. The oldest of 12 children, she took on the responsibilities of a big sister with pleasure and without hesitation. She had a beautiful smile that would light up a room. Her loves were many: she loved listening to music, especially Elvis and the blues; she loved genealogy and making the connections with people; she loved helping people as demonstrated through her work as a teacher, as a worker at the Sanatorium, her work at the Federal Government and through her volunteer work in numerous organizations. She loved taking photos!! Her greatest love and her pride and joy were her three daughters and later in life her six darling grandchildren. Predeceased by her father Bernard Stacey, her brother Ron Haley and her nephew and godchild Ken Drodge. Leaving to mourn daughters: Paula Hender (Derek), Des Moines, Iowa, Lynda Ryan (Steve), Mt. Pearl, NL, Laurie Hammond (Paul), Kilbride, NL; six precious grandchildren: Stephen, Jason, Lauryn, Dylan, Leah and Kaitlynn. Lovingly remembered by mother, Betty Stacey; sisters: Camilla Stoodley (Paul Bishop), Carole Flynn (Terry), Mary Drodge, Annette Haley (Frank Atkinson); brothers: Al Stacey (Kathi), Bernard Stacey, Wayne Haley (Wanda), Frank Haley (Joanne), Leo Haley, Glen Stacey (Karen Chafe); sister-in-law Denise Haley; twenty-three nieces and nephews who loved her dearly; special aunts: Helen Rex, Lydia Alexander and Mary Lambe. Numerous relatives, many treasured friends, especially Valerie Crewe and Sadie Mooney. Special thanks to the nurses and staff at the Palliative Care Unit of the Dr. L.A. Miller Center. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, Hamilton Avenue, St. John's. Visitation times are Wednesday, September 8, 2010 from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, September 9, 2010 from 10-12 p.m., 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services on Friday, September 9, 2010 at 3:30 p.m. at Barrett's Chapel. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, at Betty's request, donations may be made in her memory to Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation at www.cancercarefoundation.nl.ca.
