The passing of Christiane "Chris" Johanna Dorothea Martin of Fredericton, NB, wife of the late Norman L. Martin occurred on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on July 13, 1925 in Berlin, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Heinrich and Johanna (Schmidt) Becker. Chris moved to Canada from Germany in 1965. The move from Berlin to rural farm life in Carleton Co. NB was a huge adjustment, but she loved the farm life. After moving to Fredericton, she became well known for her beautiful garden and the sharing of her flowers and gardening advice. In addition, Chris enjoyed reading, classical music, animals, painting and crafts. Chris is survived by her sons, Stephan (Sherry) of Stanhope, PEI and James (Maggie) of Rusagonis, NB; daughter, Delia (Gus) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, Andrew (Tzepei), Beth-Anne (Richard), Matthew, Tristan (Claudette), Trent (Greyse) and Mallory; three great grandchildren; sister, Gisela; brother, Dietrich, twin brother, Wolfgang and nephew, Diethard, all of Berlin; several nieces and nephews; longtime neighbours and friends from the Lincoln area. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Ursula.
Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Friday, September 10, 2010 from 7 to 9 pm. A Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Anglican Church, McEvoy Street on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 2 pm with Father Ian Wetmore and Father David Mercer officiating. For those who wish, remembrances would be appreciated and may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Fredericton SPCA or the charity of the donor's choice.
