Jeannette Theresa Murphy, 73 of 19 D Rockaway St., formerly of Victoria Road, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Wednesday, June 3, 2009.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Denis and Jane (Hollohan) Murphy.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s parish and a long time member of the parish choir. She volunteered doing income tax for seniors and was a member of the Screaming Eagles Booster Club. Jeannette was employed with Scotiabank for numerous years until her retirement in 1999.
She is survived by sisters, Mrs. Patricia Dennittis, Sydney, Mrs. Mary Chisholm, Antigonish, Delores (Elmer) Lynds, Truro; brothers, John (Isobel), Sydney River, Peter (Evelyn), Okanagan Falls, B.C. and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Shirley Gillis and Sr. Veronica Murphy CND.
Visitation for the late Jeannette Murphy will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church with Rev. Gerald Dunphy officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations may be made to the C.B. Palliative Care Society, C.B. Regional Hospital Cancer Wing or the Sr. Veronica Murphy Memorial Bursary.
