It is with sadness, that we, announce the passing of Muriel Leadbeater, 96, of Seaview Manor, Glace Bay, formerly of St. Joseph Street, New Waterford, on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Hughie and Georgina (MacEachern) Muir.
Muriel was a devout member of Mt. Carmel Church. She was very faithful to her religion and found great comfort in the rosary. Muriel was an avid bingo player and a number one fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. But mostly, she will be remembered as a very wonderful and compassionate lady who loved her independence.
Muriel is survived by two daughters, Georgina (Mrs. Charles Gibson) and Karen (Mrs. Harold Coady), both of Ontario. Also surviving are one brother, Hughie Muir Jr. and his wife, Theresa, Bras d'Or; two sisters, Catherine Maroun, Sydney, Gladys Hoskin, Toronto; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Rose Leadbeater, New Waterford.
Muriel was predeceased by her husband, George Leadbeater in 1971, two daughters, Sally, Margaret in infancy, two sons, Robert, Raymond, a sister, Josephine Stepaniak and a brother, Robert Muir.
Visitation will be held Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Doug MacDonald is Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard's Church, Mt. Carmel Avenue. Interment to be held in the parish cemetery followed by fellowship at the KOC Hall, Plummer Avenue.
As an expression of sympathy for Muriel, donations in her memory may be made to the N.S. Alzheimer Association or the Canadian Cancer Society.
