TWAMLEY - Sixty-eight year old Garth “Gus†Twamley died suddenly in Fernie on Saturday, May 30, 2009. He was born to parents Ralph and Freda Twamley on April 9, 1941, in Swift Current, SK. Gus is survived by his wife, Karen; two daughters: Jackie (Ted) Hellard and Kathy Twamley, both of Calgary; his precious grandchild, Jamie Lee Hellard; and his brother Allen (Betty) Twamley of Swift Current; as well as several wonderful friends and co-workers. Gus’ career in corporate finance brought him to Fernie in 1969 when he accepted a job with CNI. Establishing roots in the Elk Valley, the Twamley family was recognized as outdoor enthusiasts; enjoying golfing, kayaking, and skiing adventures together. Following retirement in 1990, Gus continued to busy himself by working at the Fernie Alpine Resort. Gus thoroughly embraced life and all it had to offer. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry, reading and history, and was passionate on topics of preservation and conservation. Gus will be remembered for his love and devotion to family, his commitment and connection with friends, and his undeniable zest for life. A memorial service celebrating Gus’ life was held on Thursday, June 4, at Cherished Memories “Serenity Chapel.†In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Gus’ memory to the Nature Conservancy of Canada, 400-36 Eglinton Ave. West, Toronto, ON, M4R 1A1 or by phoning toll free to 1-800-465-0029.
