WINTERS, Harvey DeLee – 79, Truro, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 3, 2009, in Colchester Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born August 22, 1929, in Parrsboro, he was a son of the late Carl and Bessie (Warren) Winters. Harvey was a veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro. He served with the Royal Canadian Signals from 1951-1966 and later as a Civilian Member with the RCMP from 1969-1981. He was a life member of the Signalers Club of Canada and an amateur radio operator since 1951. (VE1HDW) Harvey is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Iris (Fielding); son, Timothy, Truro Heights; daughters, Wendy (Charles) McNutt, Onslow Mountain; Linda (Ronald) Sutherland, Belmont; Tammy (Mark) MacKay, Salmon River; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sisters, Nora Goodwin, Jolicure, New Brunswick; Rose (Melvin) Ripley, Amherst; brothers, Louis, Amherst; Carl, London, Ontario; half brothers, Frank, Bill and Freddie Winters. He was predeceased by sisters, Josephine Winters and Vera Allen; brothers, Keith, Orland, Hance and Jack. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Harvey’s family will receive friends from 7-9 pm today, beginning with a Legion Tribute Service at 7 pm, conducted by Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro. Funeral service will be held 2 pm Saturday, June 6 in the funeral home chapel. Reception will follow. Interment will then be held in Truro Heights Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Harvey’s memory to Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association or charity of choice are welcomed.
