WINTERS, Harvey DeLee – 79, Truro, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 3, 2009, in Colchester Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born August 22, 1929, in Parrsboro, he was a son of the late Carl and Bessie (Warren) Winters. Harvey was a veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro. He served with the Royal Canadian Signals from 1951-1966 and later as a Civilian Member with the RCMP from 1969-1981. He was a life member of the Signalers Club of Canada and an amateur radio operator since 1951. (VE1HDW) Harvey is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Iris (Fielding); son, Timothy, Truro Heights; daughters, Wendy (Charles) McNutt, Onslow Mountain; Linda (Ronald) Sutherland, Belmont; Tammy (Mark) MacKay, Salmon River; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sisters, Nora Goodwin, Jolicure, New Brunswick; Rose (Melvin) Ripley, Amherst; brothers, Louis, Amherst; Carl, London, Ontario; half brothers, Frank, Bill and Freddie Winters. He was predeceased by sisters, Josephine Winters and Vera Allen; brothers, Keith, Orland, Hance and Jack. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Harvey’s family will receive friends from 7-9 pm today, beginning with a Legion Tribute Service at 7 pm, conducted by Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro. Funeral service will be held 2 pm Saturday, June 6 in the funeral home chapel. Reception will follow. Interment will then be held in Truro Heights Cemetery. Family flowers only.
