It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Margaret Ruby McCarthy, age 78, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, a former resident of Pierce Street North Sydney, on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at her residence at Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Sydney.
Born in Cornerbrook, Nfld., Ruby was the daughter of the late Ronald and Annie (Kehoe) Moore.
She was a well known seamstress on the Northside for many years, and best known for the beautiful costumes she made for organizations such as the Northside Figure Skating Club, the Baretts Club, and various dance groups throughout the area. She was a devout mother to her daughter Rhonda and supported her in all aspects of her life. She loved to travel to see her grandchildren in many parts of Canada. In her younger years she loved to participate in the Northside Theatrical Club, she also loved to bowl and was an avid bingo player. Ruby was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney and sang in the church choir.
She was a resident of Northwood Manor for four years prior to returning to Sydney.
Surviving is her only daughter Rhonda (Darryn) Sampson, North Sydney and her cherished granddaughters Logan, McKenzie and Jordan Sampson; her sister Kathleen McGowan, North Sydney and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Bill; her brothers William, Michael, Arthur and sisters Elizabeth Doucette and Marjorie Joudry.
Visitation for Ruby will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Peasant St., North Sydney. Funeral Mass to be celebrated 10 a.m., Monday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Jim Attwood officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
