It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father and grandfather, Bernard ‘Connie’ Jessome which occurred Thursday, June 4, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Alexander and Elizabeth Jessome. He was a member of St. Pius X parish, Sydney Mines. Bernie was a retired coal miner and a very gentle man. He was well known for his pranks and loved a good game of cards.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 52 years, Bertha (Gerrow) Jessome; daughters, Mary (Billy) Barry, Connie (Darrell) Reid; two grandchildren, Shane and Courtney Faulkner, all of Sydney Mines. Bernie is also survived by his sister, Lorraine Hoben, Mulgrave; special nieces, Paulette (Cyril) Tobin and Joy (Bruce) Eavis, both of North Sydney and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Mary Evanitski, Theresa Anderson and 13 brothers and sisters in infancy, father and mother-in-law, Chester and Mary Ellen Gerrow.
Visitation for the late Bernie Jessome will take place today (Friday, June 5) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Francis Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines.
Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 6 in St. Pius X Church with Fr. Jake Andrea officiating. Burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
