The death of Eugene Gerow Haines occurred on Wednesday September 15, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1924 in Dorn Ridge York Co. Eugene was an ironworker, helped form the first union at Ocean Steel. Surviving are wife of 66 years Evelyn Haines; children Peter (Marianne) of Saint John; Susan (Donald) Stone of Chelmsford, ON; David (Kim) of Saint John; Gordon (Paulette) Hampton NB; Barry of Saint John; sisters Roberta King and Alice Manzer; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Hatheway and Violet (Schofield) Haines, Eugene was predeceased by his step mother Ethel Mae Haines; children Glen in infancy; Sandra Olsen and Brian Haines; brothers Weldon, Hazen, Sterling and James; great granddaughter Evie Melissa Delongchamp.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Sunday September 19, from Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd. Saint John, (646-2424). Memorial service will be Monday September 20, at 11 am, from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Fernhill Cemetery.
