It is with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a brief illness, surrounded by her family.
Born in Whitney Pier, Olive was the daughter of Walter and Sadie (Bradbury) Butler.
Olive was a faithful member of All Saints' Anglican Church in New Waterford.
She was a past leader in the church's JA movement and member of the All Saints Ladies Guild. For many years, Olive was the manager of the Schwartz of New Waterford Furniture Store. Upon her retirement, she and Alfie were able to enjoy 42 summers camping throughout Cape Breton and their winters dancing every Saturday night. Olive was an expert crotchetier and knitter and her grandchildren and great-grandson loved to receive mitts, hats and scarves from 'Nana'.
Olive is survived by her husband of 59 years, Alfred; her son, David (Lorraine); daughters, Dorothy (Eric) MacDonald and Peggy (Kenny) Forward, all of River Ryan; seven grandchildren, David, Jr., Amanda, Andrew, Jeffrey, Christopher, Kendra and Kent; as well as, a great-grandson, Jack Mombourquette. She is also survived by siblings, Irene Cottiers, New Jersey; Clarence (Aline) Butler, Sydney; Dorothy Manuge, Ontario; Sadie Ells, Amherst and Phoebe Porter, Mira.
Besides her mother and father, Olive was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Doreen and most recently her precious great-granddaughter, Autumn Lea Mombourquette; three siblings in infancy and brothers-in-law, Phillip Cottiers, John Manuge, Jules Ells and Eddie Porter.
There will be no public visitation. A service to celebrate Olive's life will be held at All Saints Anglican Church on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Vernon W. Reid officiating. Interment will be in Union Grove Cemetery, followed by a reception in the church hall.
