Mary Belyea of Saint John passed away peacefully at Rocmaura Nursing Home on September 15, 2010. Mary was born in Eastbourne, Sussex, England on September 23, 1922, daughter of the late Stanley and Alice (Earl) Pawsey. Mary was a WREN in the British Navy where she used her stenographer's skills as a teletype operator. She was a long time member and officer of the Woman's Branch #68, Royal Canadian Legion, and Provincial Command. She was a member of the Phillip A. Jerguson chapter of the Order of The Eastern Star, a former member of the IODE, a member of the War Brides Association and a former organist of St. Jude's and Good Shepherd Anglican Churches. Formerly employed at the NB Tourism, NB Museum (Archives) and Personnel Pool. Mary was an accomplished pianist and chorister in the Fundy Singers, Saint John Choral Society, Camerata Vocal Ensemble, Symphony Chorus, St. Georges and Trinity Churches. Mary is survived by her children; Ruth, Frank (Kate), Spencer (Cindy) and Rodney (Charlene). She is also survived by her grandchildren Sarah (Matthew), Kristina, Chelsea, Kaitlyn, Harry, Mary Louise, and Christopher (Laura), great grandchildren, Cassidy, Aiden and Monica as well as several British relatives, including her brother-in-law Reginald and nephew Toby. Aside from her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Captain Harry Belyea, twin sister Ruth (Cowling) and son-in-law Bud Craigie.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Castle "Fallsview" Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John West (634-1701) with visiting at Trinity Anglican Church on Sunday 7 to 9 pm and Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday from Trinity Anglican Church at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Trinity Church Organ Fund.
