THORBURN – It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joseph Phillip Feit, on June 05, 2009 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
The last surviving member of his immediate family, Joe was born on Dec. 10, 1920 in Thorburn to Charles and Mary (Vanik) Feit.
He was one of Thorburn’s young men who went off to war, serving with the Pictou Highlanders and North Nova Scotia Regiment. After serving overseas, he came back to Thorburn to work in the McBean mine and also in the coal mines in Cape Breton. After 20 years underground, he went into the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. He was a member of Branch 28, Royal Canadian Legion, and a proud member of the Thorburn and District War Veterans Association and a member of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church. He was a man with a wonderful sense of humor and great wit and felt himself truly blessed to have so many wonderful friends and family. His life was his family.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, the former Josephine Tilley, his children: Theresa (Kenny) Fraser, Cambridge, Ont., James (Diana) Feit, New Glasgow, Lewis (Beverly) Feit, MacPherson’s Mills, Joseph (Debbie) Feit, Trail, B.C., Anna (Ray) Crosby, Thorburn, and Doris (Keith) Robertson, Mississauga, Ont; also 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; also many nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law, Ruth Feit and Ann Feit.
He was predeceased by a sister, Annie; brothers: Charlie, Albert and Frank; and two children in infancy.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 on Monday, June 8 at the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009 from St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, with Father Colin MacKinnon officiating. A private family burial will be held at a later date in the parish cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the Thorburn and District War Veterans or St Ann’s Parish. He was a good man.
