It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend Bill Mulley. Bill passed away Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, at the Northside General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late J.W. and Marion (Harnem) Mulley. Bill was employed as a coal miner for most of his life. He worked for many years in the Princess mine and later as a supervisor with Prince mine until his retirement. He took great satisfaction in a good day's work, and instilled a strong work ethic in his family.
Bill was a member of Wilson United Church in Florence. He could also be seen in the choirs of several other local churches lending his voice until failing health no longer allowed.
He was a veteran of the Second Word War and a life member of Florence Legion, Branch #83 and was a member of the Bras d'Or Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club.
Bill enjoyed fishing and woodworking, and until just recently; he loved spending the weekends on the dance floor.
Bill was a very proud father and grandfather. He cherished his time spent with family and friends, especially in Baddeck and Middle River.
Bill is survived by his wife, Asneth 'Ann' (Kelland) Mulley; his six children, Marlene (Ian) MacLean, Middle River, Irene (Hal) Hill, Georges River, Billy (Denise) Mulley, Baddeck, Donnie (Bonita) Mulley, Florence, Colleen (John) Roberts, Baddeck, Kim (Scott) Young. Airdrie, Alta.; four stepchildren, Richard (Isabel) Kelland, Dalem Lake, Patsy (Cliff) Burton, Millcreek, Leonard (Debbie) Marsh, Sydney Mines, Donnie (Michelle) Marsh, Edmonton, Alta.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren, eight step great-grandchildren; his brothers, Leonard Mulley, Bridgewater, John R. Mulley, Wyoming, USA, Wesley Mulley, Florence, Wayne Mulley, North Sydney; sisters, Minnie MacLean, Sydney Mines, Mamie Johnston, North Sydney.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Catherine (Wilkie) Mulley, brothers, Murdock, Angus, and sisters, Ina Mae, Susan and Madeline.
There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, at Wilson United Church, Florence, with Rev. David Luker, officiating. Burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the N.S. Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of one's choice.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
