Selwyn E. Kerrigan, age 87 of Pt. Charlotte, Florida, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2009.
He was born June 22, 1921 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Matthew and Mary Kerrigan. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and spent 29 years in the service, retiring as a chief petty officer.
A trip to Washington, D.C. to visit the WWII Memorial was a most moving experience and also his last trip.
He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Rotonda West and a member of EARS Radio Club in Englewood. He enjoyed cribbage, crossword puzzles, ham radio, camping and travelling the United States.
Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Mary; children, Matt (Marie) of Halifax, N.S., Eileen (Jim) Dunlop of Westport, Massachusetts, Mark (Rita) of Ward, Arkansas and Maryanne Kerrigan of Boston, Mass.; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be held Monday, June 22, 2009 at 10 a.m. at St. Francis of Assissi Catholic Church in Grove City. Graveside services with full military honours will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery.
