It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Brent William Porter on Sunday, September 26, 2010 in Edmonton.
Brent was born in Glace Bay, February 10th, 1981. He has been living in Alberta for the past four years and was a member of Local 1325 working as a scaffolder.
Brent graduated from Glace Bay High School in 1999 and from NSCC in Port Hawkesbury with his Forestry Resources Certificate in 2000. He continued as a student for many years after, gaining knowledge and sharing it with others.
Brent was a person of great vitality; he loved to skateboard, paint, draw and spend time exploring the outdoors; he could make a fire out of the air. Brent had a great appreciation for music and loved to play the guitar and sing. He was an avid reader and very artistic. Brent spent time with family and friends this past summer in Glace Bay, and shortly after returning to Alberta he passed away.
Brent will be forever loved and missed by his parents, Walter and Brenda (Martin) Porter; his sister, Tara (Shane) and his brothers Ryan (Sharon) and Clint (Tania); nephew, Brandon, many aunts and uncles, cousins, special friend, Alyson Roach and all of his friends - you know who you are; he loved you deeply.
Brent was a true and wonderful synergism; God love and bless him. Always remember, "Bruce is cooler than you."
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Thomas (Dolores) Porter and Edward (Joyce) Martin.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral service, officiated by Captain Kristian Simms will be held on Monday, 2 p.m. in the Salvation Army Citadel, Glace Bay followed by interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Brent will be taken to the church at noontime on Monday.
As an expression of sympathy for Brent, donations in his memory may be made to the Cancer Society or the Diabetic Association of Nova Scotia.

Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us everyday,
Unseen, unheard,
But always near.
