It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Annie Mae Bates, 95, of 12 Arthur St. and formerly of John Street, Glace Bay. Annie Mae passed away Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in New Aberdeen, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Doucette) Arsenault.
Annie Mae was a member of St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay.
She was a homemaker and her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was fondly referred to as "Great" to her great-grandchildren.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Patsy Morrison, Marie Murphy (Stuart), Theresa Grant, Martha Green, Leone Brown (Sheldon); sons, Bill (Shirley), Fabian (Mira) and Edward; cherished grandchildren, Tanya, Danny, Matthew, Rosalie, Dawn, Louise, Jennifer, Sonya, Jeffrey, Chris, Tara, Troy, Travis, Shelley, Anne, Jessica and Jason; great-grandchildren, Amarah, Mya, Sophia, Max, Olivia, Keira, Rileigh, Jayden, Mia.
Annie Mae was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Martin Bates, RWR (Aug. 18, 1970), brothers, Stanley, Gabriel, sisters, Clara, Rita, Ella, Elizabeth, Mary, and son-in-law, Harold Grant.
Visitation for Annie Mae will be held Tuesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Wednesday at St. Anne's Church, Glace Bay, with Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Annie Mae's memory may be made to ALS Society of Nova Scotia.
