Scientist, Gardener, Family Man. It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Dr. Angus MacLean in his 89th year on Wednesday, October 6th, 2010 at the Chalmers Hospital surrounded by his family. He will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Aileen, his children David (Kim), Brian (Sandra), Douglas (Barbara), Joanne (Maureen), his grandchildren Jessica (Steven), Kathleen (Tony), Andrew, Duncan, Michael, Alexandra, Jennifer and great-grandson Orrin. He is survived by his sister Teresa Wilbur (Trueman) and predeceased by brothers Donald, Allister, Duncan, Charles, infant brother Angus and infant sister Daisy. He will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends. Born in Riverside, New Brunswick on July 24th, 1922, Gus studied at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Cornell University and received his PhD from McGill University. He worked as a soils research scientist at the Canada Agriculture Research Station in Fredericton from 1948 until 1983. Since his retirement Gus focused his attention on his family and the magnificent garden that he maintained at his cottage at Maquapit Lake.
Visitation will take place at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York St., on Friday, October 8th, 2010 from 7 to 9 pm. The memorial service will be held at St. Paul's United Church on Saturday, October 9th at 11 am with Rev. Jane Johnson officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
