Mr. William Alden Hayden MacDougall, 84, of Bradford, MA died Tuesday at his residence.
He was born in Rumford, ME, Aug. 9, 1924, son of the late Dr. James Alexander and Viola Bradford (Hayden) MacDougall. He was also raised on Prince Edward Island at the family farm in MacDougall, Summerside, P.E.I. He attended St. Dunstan’s Prepatory School and St. Dunstan’s College. At the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939 he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and saw action in Europe serving in a fighter wing. With the United States’ entry into the war he joined the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1944. He subsequently served in the Korean and Vietnam wars retiring from active duty in 1973.
After his retirement, Mr. MacDougall was employed for Early and Sons Construction and then as a Facilities Manager for Merrimack College. Mr. MacDougall was a member of the VFW, Post 2104, No. Andover and the Haverhill Ridge Runners. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Lucy (Karekos) MacDougall of Bradford, a son, William, and his wife, Marlene MacDougall of Haverhill, three grandchildren, Alexander, Eden and MacKenzie MacDougall, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his stepmother, Doris Jordan MacDougall Elsmore, and brothers, James Roderick MacDougall, John Alden MacDougall, Douglas Paul MacDougall, and Gordan Alexander MacDougall.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. from the H.L. Farmer & Sons BRADFORD Funeral Home, 210 So. Main St., Bradford, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 in Scared Hearts Church, Bradford.
Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
