EARLE, Arthur Leonard - 95, Truro, formerly of North Sydney, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, October 6, 2010, at Williams Country Homes, Brookfield. Born July 26, 1915, in North Sydney, he was a son of the late Stanley and Anna (MacKenzie) Earle. Arthur was a veteran of the Second World War. He joined the No. 5 Company of Royal Canadian Corps of Signals, Glace Bay, on September 13, 1939, and was discharged as Captain Adjutant of Atlantic Command Signals, Halifax, in July of 1945. In 1947 he became an Assessor in the Income Tax Department and in 1949 he joined McCurdy and Company Ltd., Sydney, as their accountant. In 1956 he opened his Public Accounting Business in Sydney and in 1963 he entered into partnership with Douglas MacLeod and formed, Earle & MacLeod. He was a member of Saint John's Anglican Church, North Sydney, and Saint Mark's Anglican Church, Coxheath. He was a past member of the Kinsmen Club, North Sydney, and past president of Rotary Club, Sydney. He was awarded the rank of 33 Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite, for his work in organizing the Cape Lodge of perfection, of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in Sydney. He attended Valley United Church and was a member of The Golden "K" Club of Truro. Arthur was the last surviving member of his immediate family and is survived by his daughter, Karen (David) Arnfast, Valley, Colchester County; grandchildren, Esben (Monique) Arnfast, Paul (Faye) Arnfast, Truro; Patricia (Rick) Ansell, Eastern Passage; great grandchildren, Kimberly Gould, Benjamin Arnfast, Oliver Arnfast; niece, Anne (Robert) Bedard, Aurora, Ontario. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary Catherine "Kaye" (Kingan). A celebration of Arthur's life will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 12, 2010, in Valley United Church, 110 Salmon River Road, Valley, Reverend Brian DeLong officiating. Reception will follow in Masonic Lodge, corner of Pictou Road and St. David's Avenue, Bible Hill. Interment will be held in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donation in Arthur's memory to a charity of choice are welcomed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
