MINGO, Elmer Albert - 92, Salmon River. The family of Elmer Albert Mingo wish to announce that he died on Thursday, October 7, 2010, in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born November 23, 1917, in Truro, he was a son of the late Carmi and Elizabeth "Lizzie" (MacMillan) Mingo. Elmer was a veteran of the Second World War and worked for many years as a conductor for Canadian National Railways. He was also a life member of Nova Scotia Rug Hooker's Guild. Elmer is survived by his daughters, Mary (Gavin) Howlett, New Zealand; Valerie (Patrick) Clancy, Peterborough, Ontario; son, Vernon, Halifax; special friends of the family, Brenda Pate, Bianca and David Blair, Pat and Carl Shaw, Betty and Keith Richardson; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Isenor (1996); sisters, Florence Nadeau, Emily Mingo; brothers, Butler and Donald Mingo. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Elmer's family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Friday, October 15, 2010, and where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, October 16, 2010, Reverend Roger Moore officiating. Reception will follow. Interment at a later date in Watson Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Elmer's memory to Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia are welcomed.
